In the prevailing legal backdrop where Democractic Party (DP) leader Sarath Fonseka is prevented from contesting the forthcoming elections, discussions are underway to field party assistant secretary - Anoma Fonseka instead, internal party sources reveal.
At the present, the elections commissioner has formally informed the DP that Sarath Fonseka's name has been removed from the voters list.Speaking at a yesterday's (17) media briefing held on this regard, Fonseka said, "We will not fall back before the suppression of the Rajapaksa regime.
There are other individuals in our party who are capable of securing more votes than me. If required, such an individual would be fielded from our party. However, we have not decided what to do at a presidential election. We will take every possible measure and make any sacrifice to chase away this ruler."
