Military rule in North - Sampanthan

The military is further strengthening its rule, TNA leader R. Sampanthan has said.
He was making the above observation while speaking to BBC Sandeshaya on the government orders stating that foreigners wishing to visit the Northern region should obtain prior permission form the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development.
The decision of the government was announced by military spokesman Ruwan Wanigasuriya at a media conference in Colombo yesterday (15).
The TNA leader says that decision is entirely wrong.
Noting that Tamils abroad arriving in Sri Lanka leave after visiting their relations and worshipping the Kovils in their villages, Sampanthan said adding that they are yet to hear of a complaint on this regard.
Military rule
If a person arriving in Sri Lanka could go to the South or anywhere else within the country, why not to the North?, the TNA leader has questioned, while speaking to BBC Sandeshaya. Also, if they can come to Sri Lanka, why not to the North?, he has further questioned.
If there are any complaints raised against certain individuals, only such persons should be kept from visiting the North, he has further added.
North, off boundaries for foreigners?
Speaking at the media briefing yesterday, the military spokesman said that these measures are being done after receiving intelligence of a small group attempting to create communal disharmony in the North.
Though the magnitude of such persons is small, it could pose a threat to national security, which cannot be allowed, he added.
