The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) says that they have never discussed with the UNP over joining the common opposition or over backing a common candidate.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the JHU headquarters this morning (13), party General Secretary and Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that the party has not yet taken a decision over supporting a common candidate.
Noting that discussions with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) had shown a positive outcome so far, the minister said that the JHU had taken up the topic of the presidential election only during discussions with the President.
He added that it was the 'Pivithuru Hetak - an external organisation, which has held discussions with the UNP.
Noting that the JHU has not taken a decision on leaving the government, minister Ranawaka said adding that the party will inform their stance after the presidential election is officially announced on Nov. 19.
