CWC leaning towards joining the government

It is reported that the Ceylon Workers' Congress has expressed interest in voting in favour of the budget and join the government.

The Ceylon Workers’ Congress Secretary General Jeevan Thondaman has stated that he has informed President Ranil Wickremesinghe that his party has expressed interest in accepting a cabinet minister position.

However, Jeevan Thondaman has said that joining the government will be decided based on the ministerial position offered to the Ceylon Workers' Congress.

The Ceylon Workers’ Congress previously stated that it had not decided to vote in favour or against the 2023 Budget thus far.

Speaking to media in Kandy, CWC General Secretary Parliamentarian Jeevan Thondaman noted that if the 2023 Budget proposes to provide relief to residents in plantation areas and uplift their economy, the party will support it.

MP Thondaman confirmed that he has held several rounds of discussions with President Ranil Wickremesinghe as well.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to deliver the 2023 Budget speech on the 14th of November.
