Over 3 crore rupees spent in 2020/21 on a new draft constitution. Six-month deadline exceeded

 
An audit report reveals that more than three crore rupees have been spent in the two years 2020 and 2021 for the preparation of a new draft constitution.

It is also mentioned in the report that the work which was supposed to be completed in six months was not completed in fifteen months.


The report states that the first committee met in October 2020 to draft a new constitution and more than two crore rupees were spent for 38 committee sessions and nine negotiations with external parties.

Among these expenses, 12.5 lakh rupees were spent on office equipment and rent for three office rooms which were not used for any purpose and the said offices were returned later, it is stated in the report.

Committee participation for the experts of the Constitution Drafting Committee is 31 lakh rupees, 120 thousand rupees as travel expenses to attend committee meetings, 12 lakh rupees in monthly allowances for the committee secretary for the relevant period, 6 lakh rupees in monthly coordination allowance, and 25.6 lakh rupees in research assistant allowances, totaling over one crore rupees. The report states that an amount of Rs. 1,01,80,000 has been paid by December 31, 2021, and the said payments have been made without the approval of the Treasury.
