The Tamil National Alliance has decided to boycott the 75th National Independence Day Celebrations.
The Alliance said the decision was taken since the Tamil people have not yet received their freedom in a proper manner.
MP M.A. Sumanthiran said the governing system was transformed into a majority-based system under the guise of democracy immediately after independence.
“That’s why the other communities did not receive any independence . Only the Sinhala Buddhist people thought that they had independence. However, they also feel that they haven’t received proper independence . When the President makes arrangements to celebrate the 75th Independence Day on February 4th, no one living in this country enjoys any freedom. We declare this day as a black day and we will commence a campaign to obtain independence properly,” he said.
