An interim order issued to prevent the implementation of ministers gazette related to Sports bodies

The cricket (SLC) filed a petition seeking a stay of execution order from the minister’s recently issued gazette regulations pertaining to sports bodies in Sri Lanka. Many of the benefits that clubs currently enjoy, such as contesting and holding office in sports bodies, would be prohibited or restrict under the Minister’s new regulations.

Based on this, the Court of Appeal has issued an interim order, preventing the implementation of the gazette issued by the Sports Minister, which outlines regulations pertaining to sports bodies. This order was issued after several sports associations, including the Sri Lanka Cricket Association, filed petitions.

The order was issued today after considering the petitions filed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and several other sports bodies.

The proposed new regulations had prevented those above 70 years of age, those who have held the office of president twice in a row, those who have held various positions for eight years, and those who have been convicted of corruption charges from participating in elections for sports governing bodies.
