Issuing a statement, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has slammed the Government’s decision to send a hefty electricity bill to the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
“A government writing bills to Sacred Tooth Relic before which even imperialists bowed their heads down” he said in a statement today (16).
Sajith Premadasa questions the Government’s decision to send an unbearable electricity bill with the famous Esala Perahera just around the corner.
“The government has resorted to an unprecedented practice of writing an electricity bill for the historical procession of the Temple of Tooth Relic which is the pinnacle of Buddhist reverence and has, thus, exposed its rude and unscrupulous policy and this vile act is a disgrace to Dharma of the fully enlightened lord Buddha, to the entire Buddhist society and the whole country in general” he further said
The opposition leader went on to add that the Government is unfairly burdening religious places and demanded to provide a concession in electricity charges for places of worship, including Buddhist temples.
