Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is reported to have refused to occupy the same table along with seventh Executive President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the event organised to mark the National Day of China in Colombo on Thursday night, learns.
The Chinese Embassy in Colombo organised the function to mark the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The event’s VIP section, presided over by Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong, had carefully planned seating arrangements to accommodate these guests.
All four former presidents who are alive - Ms. Kumaratunga, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Mahinda Rajapaksa and Maithripala Sirisena- were invited to the event along with others. (Kelum Bandara)
