Justice Minister proposes project to utilize controversial Malwana land

Justice Minister – Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has proposed a project to utilize a 15-acre land and building in Malwana that had been the centre of much controversy.

The land, which was widely believed to be owned by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, is now acquired by the Justice Ministry after being disclaimed.

Visiting the premises yesterday (Feb. 20), the Minister had told reporters that he will submit a cabinet paper to utilize the land for a development project.

He had added that although he had previously proposed to convert the premises into an international research and training centre for judges, plans had stalled after the government had changed.
