People cannot expect anything from this government, as it has placed a monkey in front of everything else, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) former MP Thisakutti Arachchi said.
Addressing the media, he said that no road developments or constructions have taken place in rural villages, no state buildings have been constructed, no bus stands have been built, no measures have been taken to extend the expressways, no carpet roads have been laid, and no progress has been made in port development or the Colombo Port City project. Additionally, no new buildings have been constructed in Colombo, and no improvements have been made to school infrastructure.
"This country started moving backward from 2015 after former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was defeated. If he had not been defeated, the Port City project would have been completed and developed, expressways would have covered the entire country, ports would have been built and modernised, and airports across the country would have been expanded. Sri Lanka would have achieved international recognition," the former MP said.
He claimed that Rajapaksa's defeat was due to allegations of corruption, adding, "The reason for his downfall was labeling him and his administration as thieves. Therefore, we urge the incumbent government to bring those so-called thieves to justice immediately. Doing so will prove to the entire country that the Rajapaksas are innocent. Once people realize the truth, they will once again support the Rajapaksas and bring them back to power."
"People voted for President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka without properly evaluating his background because he spoke persuasively and made grand promises. He talked about developing this country by utilizing its economic, social, political and geographical advantages, as well as through diplomacy and resource management," he said.
"People voted for him because he made them dream of a better life—promising to develop the fisheries industry using the country's surrounding sea, making vehicles affordable at Rs. 1.2 million, and bringing rice prices to an affordable level. That is why people elected him, believing in his vision to turn those dreams into reality," he added.
"The entire country, including the youth and intellectual communities, expected something from the current President. Even the Sri Lankan diaspora had hopes for his leadership. Therefore, we urge him to fulfill his promises instead of making more empty pledges and ensure those dreams become reality," he stated.
"If not, the people will rise and take action to overthrow this government. Before that happens, I urge the current administration to step down if they are unable to fulfill the people's aspirations. Handing over power to the SLPP's active committee would be the best course of action, as the SLPP has the most experienced group to drive the country's development forward," former MP Thisakutti Arachchi said.
"We are prepared to take on the leadership of this country. We are ready to act, with Namal Rajapaksa as the next President," he concluded.
